Preparation for the rowing challenge

I started rowing about two months ago and have so far rowed about 180KM. All my rowing has been done on a Concept 2 rowing machine. I usually row four times a week, anywhere between 2Km and 10Km and have so far included one half marathon. This challenge started on May 1st, which is the start of the new rowing season. To achieve 1 million metres in a year i'll have to row roughly 20Km a week, which is about 5Km each time i row. Obviously with holidays etc, i'll need to row some longer distances to keep up, so this will really be a challenge for me.

I've also set up an online donation page, created this new blog and created a map to show the progress i would be making if i were really rowing round the UK. I've also rowed my first 10km, so there are only 990,000m to go!

  1. Hi Richard - I'm Caroline who is also doing a one million metres row for my mum. You will be able to access my just giving page if you follow your one million metres tag. Good luck for your challenge, i am on track so far - and so are you!
If you want to join my rowing team 'Empty the tanks' for the Fall rowing challenge in September it would be a great incentive for us to be able to row for PSP & MS and try to get into the top 30 teams world-wide too! i have a 17 strong team and we finished 36th out of 230 teams in the recent World Rowing Challenge.
Keep up the good work on the C2 - pull, pull and pull some more!

  2. Hi Caroline - I am new to this blogging business so not sure whether to reply here or on your page. I started logging my rowing on Concept 2's site in March, when i wanted motivation to keep rowing. Saw you on the weekly winners page and thought that it was a good idea to maybe do something myself. As you've probably noticed i copied bits from your fundraising page and your idea to plot a map. Hope you don't mind, it's all in a good cause. I'll think about joining the team. How does it work? Richard

  3. Hello Richard, I'm fairly new to the blogging stuff too. If you do want to join the team - go to the 'teams' tab on your on-line log book and there will be options to join an 'open team', Empty the tanks will be in the listings. Don't worry if you can't get it sorted - there is plenty of time! I can't get the cool just-giving widget that you've got on your blog to work on my page?! Any tips?
Keep up the good work - i see you've got a good amount of sponsorship already!

  4. 1.Highlight the code from the justgiving site and right click then copy.
    2. Click on 'customise', top right of your blog.
3.Click on a section on your blog layout where it says'Edit'.
4.Paste it into the content section of the panel that opens up.
Click 'save' and that should be it.
Hope that helps; If i'm still rowing when the challenge comes up i'll certainly join your team.
Did another £10k today. Keep going too! Richard
